Frequently used words

Ambivalence

The psychological state in which one experiences conflicting feelings, thoughts, or desires regarding a person, thing, or decision (e.g., desire and rejection).

Ambiversion

Describes a personality type that possesses both introverted and extroverted traits. Ambiverted individuals can respond flexibly to social situations.

Autotelic experience

A term from flow research. It describes an activity that has its purpose within itself (auto = self, telos = goal). The activity is performed for its own sake and not for an external goal (such as money or recognition). The flow experience is typically autotelic.

Beliefs

Deep-rooted, mostly unconscious beliefs or assumptions about ourselves, others, or the world (“I'm not good enough”). They influence our thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Coaching

A professional support process for self-reflection and development. The coach helps clients define their own goals and find solutions without directly dictating them.

Consulting

Short- to medium-term support from an expert. Consulting primarily aims to impart knowledge, facts, and concrete solutions, often in technical or structural matters.

Community

A group of people who are connected by shared interests, goals, or values (e.g., personal development) and who regularly exchange ideas and support each other, often online.

Emotional intelligence (EQ)

The ability to recognize, understand, control, and respond appropriately to one's own emotions and those of others. It is crucial for successful interpersonal relationships.

Extraversion

A personality dimension characterized by an outward orientation. Extraverted individuals usually draw their energy from social interaction and are typically sociable and active.

Extrinsic motivation

Motivation that is stimulated from outside in order to achieve a certain result or avoid a consequence. In contrast to intrinsic motivation (which comes from the activity itself), extrinsic motivation is fueled by external incentives such as rewards (money, praise), recognition, status, grades, or the avoidance of punishment. One does something not for its own sake, but for the result.

Flow

The psychological state of being completely absorbed in an activity (also known as “being in the zone”), in which one forgets time, worries, and the outside world. Flow occurs when the demands of a task are optimally matched to one's abilities (neither too demanding nor too easy). This state is highly productive, intrinsically rewarding, and accompanied by deep concentration.

Keynote speech

A short, stimulating presentation (usually 15-45 minutes) that focuses on a specific topic. It is intended to inspire the audience, provide food for thought, and encourage subsequent discussion.

Master class

An intensive teaching format led by a recognized expert. Masterclasses are typically advanced, highly focused, and impart deep, specialized knowledge or a specific skill.

Mental entropy

The opposite of the state of flow. It describes a state of inner disorder and confusion in the mind, caused by fear, stress, worries, or distractions. This state prevents focused action and entering the flow.

Mindfulness

The practice of conscious, non-judgmental awareness of the present moment. It involves paying attention to internal (thoughts, feelings) and external (smells, sounds) experiences.

Inner team

A model of communication psychology that states that a person consists of different inner parts (“team members”) that have different interests and voices (e.g., the perfectionist, the child).

Intrinsic motivation

Motivation that arises from the activity itself because it is enjoyable, interesting, or meaningful (e.g., enjoyment of painting). This is the driving force behind the flow state, as opposed to extrinsic motivation (rewards, external recognition).

Introversion

A personality dimension characterized by an inward orientation. Introverts usually draw their energy from quiet and solitude and prefer deep, focused activities.

Resilience

Mental resilience, i.e. the ability to cope with crises, stress, setbacks, or difficult life situations without long-term impairment and to emerge from them stronger.

Self-efficacy

A person's belief that they can successfully complete certain tasks or achieve a desired result on their own. It is an important driver of motivation and goal achievement.

Training

A structured, didactic measure aimed at practicing and improving specific abilities, skills, and behaviors (e.g., communication training).

Vision board

A visual collage of images, quotes, and symbols that represent personal or professional goals, dreams, and desires. It serves as motivation, focus, and manifestation.

Webinar

A seminar or lecture held live via the Internet. It enables interactive participation by participants regardless of their location and serves to impart knowledge and facilitate exchange.

Workshop

A practically oriented event with a high degree of active participation, exercises, and group work by the participants. The aim is to develop concrete results or acquire skills.
